I'm just wondering if anyone here has Raced their trucks? Or if anyone does Sled pulling?

I would love to do both but I cant hold a candle to the Fords, and Cummins...Cough, Cough...

So what did you guys run/pull, and what Mods are you running?

Never raced it at the track, I am always the tow rig for my brother in-law and father in-laws cars, really would suck to break the tow rig! Thinking about giving it a go this year though, after I get my mild tow build done. They are talking about having diesel night at the track we frequent.

I really don't have a fear of breaking anything, I run this truck to the bone everyday so it's really no different, just never wanted to unhook the gooseneck once I got to the track.

I hear ya there... My buddy races Sportsman Dirt cars, and He wants me to tow Him to the track, but watch the Drags first. I really wanna Drag mine but being the tow rig I'm gonna play it safe and just watch. Unless I get the itch...

Yes sir...Well I think this place is set up well, they have paved track, and dragstrip. If he runs different tires he can do the paved track. I should have said that.

Went 3 passes at the track so far and had a blast. Plan to get back out soon as I can. Still need another boost gauge and my fuel press gauge installed to help my starts. Had some bad reaction times and 60' times I need to work on.

I have plenty passes in a mustang, but lining up a 9,000lb brick is a tad different I would think, be a new learning curve. At least I don't have worry about packing the parachute after a pass at least!... Always hated that!

Mustangs...my personal mustang had a best of 12.75. My brother in-law has had multiple cars over the years, latest was 00 v6 car he bought, and built a DOHC 302 mod motor stroker with twin turbos. Our deal was, I towed, he raced it in his class and I got passes in it for test n tune. Fastest pass I made was 9.40 @ 151 his best pass was 8.72 @ 157 car made 918 to the tires through a TH400.
Still has the Drivetrain but sold chassis last year....looking to build an 05+ body style mustang this year.

Not to shabby :favorites37: that's the fun part of drag racing for me...improving as a driver, reaction times, working on 60' times etc.

I think sled pulling would be fun, but really scared to hook it up!:whymewhyme:

Yea it was fun and I was impressed for just a delete and tune. I wanna try some 1/8th mile for working on 60' times.

Pulling looks like fun also but I'm also too worried about breaking something on the dd to do that yet

If I get my tow build done in time I may try a pull at our state fair for kicks. Last year they had a 3 pulls for $50 thing. No competition just for anybody who wanted to try it.

Ran my truck last week. Best time was a 13.2 1/4mile.. Ran it with the spartan 310. Current mods, egr cooler delete, 5in exhaust, no limits coldside pipe, 4in ceramic coated downpipe, and afe intake.

I wouldn't mind hooking to the sled once I get some mods for some power. Drag racing on 33" mud grips doesn't sound like much fun. Makes me miss my dragster... 4 link Undercover with an all aluminum Pontiac 632. 1150 ft/lb and 1550 HP. 1/8 mile @ 4.22 spinning the tires... Yeee Hawww!!!

That sounds like a fun 4 sec ride!!! Best 1/8 in the mustang was 5.72 few of our buddies have went 5teens but all have way more rear suspension! We run stock style...8.8 rear with aftermarket control arms and anti-roll bar. we run the 10.5 tire outlaw class, its a challenge to get that power to to ground on a 10.5" tire, but that what makes it fun! Its also a full interior car other than back seat delete, full power windows and a/c too!

You'd think a 34.5x17x16 would hook, but when it it second gear, it would spin the tires HARD...

Yeah, prob hooks at the line, starts spinning about 100' out or so....then the fun begins!!

I used to race my crotchrocket all the time at the heartland park and KCIR. KCIR was awesome cause they would have thurs night bike night. I could easily get 20 runs in. No waiting in line sometimes. Go down the track, come back and yer on the starting line again.

Looks like a fun 4 seconds! Thing sounds wicked..isn't it funny the work and effort we put in for a single pass!!!! But it's so worth it!

yeah it is ALOT!!!! of work but like you said so worth it

That thing is mean. Why were those guys wiping the tires off though?
they are wiping off the pieces of concrete/asphalt, sand, and pieces of loose rubber that the sticky tires pick up after heating em up (if you watch NHRA top fuel races they do the same thing for the same reason) it does actually help some with traction. also the VHT on the track sticks to the tires and picks up unwanted stuff too

one of the hard parts of runnin that car is finding tracks that spray the whole track and not just to 100' or half track

blacksmoking
04-20-2012, 09:26 AM
Ok thanks, i didn't figure it'd pick up enough stuff to matter.

no problem. most cars it doesn't but with that much power and that soft of tires it does, also every little bit helps...if ya wanna see more just search wild rat racing on youtube. there's alot of video's from through the years with dif sizes of engines, dif transmissions along with dif settings, dif things done to the engines, rear end swaps and ratio changes, dif nitromethane mixtures, ect, ect, ect.... lol

oh yeah and she's always been naturally aspirated. no blowers or turbos, and never a trans-brake when we were still usin the powerglide. no nitros either always just straight fuel
